The parish of Conistone with Kilnsey in Upper Wharfedale offers a great variety of walking, easy or more challenging but always beautiful. 
The Dales Way , Mastiles Lane, Scott Gate Lane and Bycliffe Road are all on the doorstep and you can set off in any direction from your accommodation, guidebook or map in hand, to explore the many footpaths and bridleways. Glorious views open up round every bend and over every hill. 
Look out for curlews, peewits, wheatears and skylarks or buzzards gliding in the sky, or keep a keen eye on the river for kingfishers, dippers, grey wagtails, oyster catchers, sandpipers and the mallard and goosanders feeding there. 
In the meadows and on the hills the spring and summer wealth of limestone-loving flowers provides another source of enjoyment.

Cycling

For cyclists there are miles of cross country biking trails as well as pretty country lanes, allowing you to enjoy the tranquil countryside away from the pressures of the busy main roads. The 'back road' from Grassington to Kettlewell, passing through Conistone, is designated as a cycleway and from time to time is used for organised cycle races.

If you would like more of a challenge, the 2015 Tour de France route took the riders past our village hall and through Kilnsey towards some serious hill climbs.

Fishing

If you want to go fishing in Kilnsey and Conistone then head for the Kilnsey Park where there is rainbow trout fishing for adults and children all year round, as well as a children's nature trail.
Fly fishing in season in the Rivers Wharfe and Skirfare for brown trout and grayling is available through Kilnsey Angling Club (Day permits obtained at the Tennant Arms).

Another way to enjoy the Kilnsey and Conistone scenery is from horseback.  Riding and pony trekking are available from the Kilnsey Trekking Centre  on the outskirts of Conistone village, where there are rides for all ages and levels of experience.
